How does the Spray Tan work?
Sienna X products work on the outer layer of your skin. The products contain DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) which reacts with the amino acids in your skin causing the colour of the skin to change, subsequently producing a beautiful natural tan. Different skin types react in different degrees to the solution, so I have a range of strengths that can be used to achieve different depths of tan. The development of the tan takes approximately 8 to 10 hours or the 1hr Fast Tan can be washed off between 1-4hrs depending on the depth of tan you require.
How long does the treatment take?
The actual spray tan process only takes about 10 minutes. It takes about 10 minutes to setup the spray tan booth and spray equipment and about the same to pack away. Your whole appointment should take no more than half an hour if carried out in your home.
Will I go orange or streaky?
This is by far the most asked question! Spray tanning products are now better than ever and with professional
training in the application of these products, any problems have been
virtually eliminated. I only use Sienna X professional products and
equipment, and they are trusted by celebrities and used on TV shows such as
Strictly Come Dancing and How to Look Good Naked. As a trained
professional, I will ensure I will match the correct solution to
your skin tone, thus eliminating the risk of looking fake or orange.
Sienna X Spray Tans provide a very natural colour.
How dark your skin goes will depend on your skin type and the strength of the solution I use during the treatment. This will be discussed during your initial consultation. If I tan everyone with the same strength solution, each person will have a slightly different final colour, due to there natural skin tone. Your skin will also react more readily with repeat treatments, so top up tans on a regular basis will help you go darker more naturally.
Is Spray Tanning safe?
Spray Tanning is much safer than risking prolonged over exposure to harmful UVA and UVB rays. The main component of the Sienna X product is DHA, which is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin) and is commonly used in cosmetic products and as a food ingredient. It has been listed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 1973. DHA is not absorbed through the skin into the body and poses no possibility of toxicity.
What is the advantage of a Spray Tan over UV tanning?
Spray tanning offers an alternative to tanning by exposure to
UVA/UVB. It is quick and easy, and your tan will develop over 8 - 10 hours. It is particularly suitable for people with sensitive skin or
those who do not tan easily. One spray tan treatment is equivalent to
around six to eight tanning bed sessions. Cancer Research UK advise that sunbed use, or tanning in the sun increases the risk of skin cancer. Additionally, sunbeds are now banned for people under the age of 18.
Will a Spray Tan protect me from getting sunburn?
No. Your spray tan does not give any additional protection during exposure to the sun. You should take the usual precautions with an SPF cream or lotion when going out into the sun after a spray tan.
Can a Spray Tan be removed?
In a word, no! Your Tan does not wash off, but it will fade as the outer layer of the skin naturally sheds dead skin cells. You can help the process by exfoliating, however, do not over do it! I suggest that you only exfoliate on day 5 of your tan to help it fade evenly and allow your skin to absorb more moisturiser. Following your treatment, I will show you that you do not have any spray tan product on the palms of your hands. Any tan on your palms, will be due to you touching your skin during the development period of your tan.
What happens if the tanning spray gets in my eyes?
Tanning spray has been used in literally millions of treatments with no adverse reactions being reported. When your face is being tanned, you will be asked to close your eyes.
Can people of any age have a spray tan?
Yes, any person of any age can enjoy a spray tan. However, persons under the age of 16 will need a parents or guardians permission.
Do the tanning products smell?
They do smell, but with a gorgeous hint of coconut! Nothing like the previous tell tale fake tan smell of the past!!
Who should not have a spray tan?
If you have highly sensitive skin please double check with your doctor that a spray tan will be safe. I do offer patch tests, but these sometimes do not affect you, but a full body spray tan can. If you have had problems or allergic reactions after a previous spray tan, then you MUST make me aware of this so we can discuss your options. In all situations, a pregnant or nursing woman should ask her doctor / midwife first before using any product. NHS Direct offers further advice on the subject of pregnancy and fake tanning. If you have severe breathing difficulties, it is not advisable to have a Spray Tan. For any mild respiratory conditions, masks are available to wear during your treatment. If you have had a recent tattoo or broken skin due to certain skin conditions, than a spray tan is not recommended without covering these areas. If you are in any doubt, then please do not hesitate to contact me.
